After retiring, he and wife Marjorie spent nearly 30 years traveling the United States, settling in Arizona and Oregon, before returning to Washington in their later years to be near family.
Mr. Barker served Washington for about 60 years, as the town's first fire chief and forest fire warden. He had been selectman for 19 years and was police chief for many years. He had been the town perambulator and served on several committees. He represented Washington to the Dartmouth Lake Sunapee Region, and belonged to the N.H. Police Chiefs Association, Sullivan-Grafton Law Enforcement Association and the Fire Wardens Association. He was also a hunting guide for several years. [2]
