From an undated newspaper clipping, newspaper not identified: "In 1905, Theodore Roosevelt was President. Our sheriff was W. B. Allen. O. A. Ashburn was school superintendent. An important event for West Union that year was the dedication of a beautiful building. (It still is.) We think of it as the Masonic Building. The RECORD reported: 'The Macabee Temple was dedicated on Saturday. It is the first to be built on Foley Square and is a beautiful structure. The building and the ground cost $10,000.' A large crowd was present throughout the day and into the evening. The M. E. Church Orchestra played. Miss Beulah Stuck and Miss Emma Shannon sang solos."
