Robert M. “Bob” Byers, 82, of Belmont, formerly of the Nine Mile Community, died May 31, 2008, at Carehaven of Pleasants.
He was born July 4, 1925, in Hebron, a son of the late Burl M. and Sharlene Satterfield Byers. He was retired from the American Cyanamid Company, was an U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre of Operations. He was a past president of the Rt. 16 Water Corporation, was a former member of the Pleasants County Board of Education and was a charter member of the Pleasants County Emergency Squad.
He is survived by three daughters, Connie Ferrell of New Martinsville, Penny Britton and her husband, Edwin, of St. Marys and Trena Cox and her husband, Donald, of Harrisville; one son, Mark Byers and his wife, Drema, of St. Marys; nine grandchildren, Loree Hughart and her husband, Lester, Dan Ferrell and his wife, Tonia, Caree Bills and her husband, “Buggy,” Darcy Haught and her husband, Curtis, Mike Gray, Melanie Nisbitt and her husband, Johan, Katee Pennington and her husband, Joshua, Donnie Paul Cox Jr. and Samuel Cox; eight great-grandchildren, Wesley Bills, Bradlee Bills, James Bills, Nicole Haught, Logan Haught, Dimaggio MacDonald, Morgan Haught and TreQuan Nisbitt; two brothers, Todd Byers of St. Marys and Eddie Byers and his wife, Carolyn, of Washington, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Grove Byers; one grandson, Robbie Britton; one son-in-law, Larry J. Ferrell; one sister, Connie Sue Byers; two brothers, Frank Byers and Joe Byers; stepfather, Roy Dugan May; and a stepbrother, Dugan May.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Tim Nichols officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Lane Masonic Cemetery, Hebron, with military graveside services. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
