Notes for: Robert W. Harper

Robert W. Harper was a retired farmer, as well as a former employee of the B&O Railroad Company, Carbon Gas Company, and the "lampblack factory located near here years ago."

Local news item, "West Union Record," Friday, Jun 15 1900, in its entirety:
"Robert Harper, the faithful B & O track walker on the Smithton-Long Run section, was in town Saturday evening attending the Mason lodge. He has only missed one day from his work in the past year."

An article on the front page of "The Doddridge County Republicen," Mar 8 1923, quoted in its entirety:
"STILL IN SERIOUS CONDITION
Robert Harper, who fell from the railroad bridge east of Smithton a few days since which resulted in a broken back and other very serious injuries, is still lying in a most critical condition in a Parkersburg hospital, with little hopes of his recovery. Mr. Harper was working on the bridge at the time of the accident and was knocked off with a swinging crane and fell quite a distance to the bed of the stream below."
