Notes for: John Hoff

John and Elizabeth Ann Gaston Hoff settled at Bone Creek, Ritchie Co, shortly after their marriage and remained there their entire lives. As well as a farmer, John Hoff was a talented and industrious craftsman. The furniture about the home, even to the loom and spinning wheel, were his own handwork. He was also a mill-wright, blacksmith and stockman. He was also a Captain in the Union Army. The inscription on his headstone reads simply "Honesty is the best policy."
