Notes for: David W. Kinney
Obituary:
D.W. Kinney, a life long resident of this community, departed this life in the Kessler Hospital in Clarksburg last Saturday morning, November 9, 1901, where he had been removed a few days before. He was born November 17, 1831, son of Snowden and Mary (Sayre) Kinney. His death was the result of a general break down in health, covering a period of many months, through he was only confined to his room three or four weeks. The body was removed to this place Saturday afternoon and was taken to his late home in the Neely Addition, West Union, Doddridge county, where it remained until Monday morning at 10 o'clock when the funeral took place in the U.B. church and was conducted by Rev. Hite of that church, of which was largely attended, the body was followed to the cemetery where it was laid to rest. Uncle Dave, as he was familiarly known, leaves a wife, Harriet (Gatrell) Kinney, and ten grown children, six sons, who acted as pall bearers and four daughters, besides three brothers and one sister. He was a soldier in the civil war and received an honorable discharge. He has long been a familiar figure about town and will be greatly missed.
