Notes for: Ernest Wellington "Doc" Smith

Ernest Wellington Smith, his wife Janie Iantha King, and their son Christian Joy Smith were killed in an automobile accident. Some genealogists have incorrectly given his wife's name as Stella, with children other than the ones he had. The "Stella" material is an erroneous reference to the wife of another Ernest Smith, Ernest Hoff Smith (4/29/1880 - 7/21/1928, son of John Smith & Margaret Hoff) of Buckhannon Pike in Nutter Fort, that has been repeated by copyists. Ernest Wellington Smith graduated from George Washington University with an M.D. degree in 1906. Suffering from polio in his youth, he became a doctor of osteopathic medicine and chiropractics.
