T. B. FORSBURG IS WESTERN UNION OPERATOR
L. T. Graham, who has been Western Union telegraph operator here for some time, went on the retired list last Thursday, and T. B. Forsburg is now operator here. The Western Union telegraph office has been moved from the Cox Bros. building to Trainer and Troutman Motor company's garage.
Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Oct 28 1915, in its entirety:
"L. T. Graham, our veteran telegrapher, is spending a few days at Orrville, Ohio, the guest of his son Charles Graham, who like his father, is a professional "Morse Code" man. Telegraphy was indeed a wonder in days gone by, and even yet it is the most important of all means of long distance communication; but just to let "Chuck" know that "wireless" is no dream, we'll hint to him that we have some important information regarding certain future events that didn't come over a Western Union wire!"
News item, "West Union Record," Thursday, November 18 1915, in its entirety:
WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH OFFICE HERE IS DISCONTINUED
"The Western Union telegraph office here has been discontinued. For some time, the office has been managed by T. B. Forsburg and has been located in Trainer and Troutman Motor company's garage, but Mr. Forsburg found that his business did not allow him to give the telegraph office the required attention, and resigned the first of the month, as the company did not seem to be able to make satisfactory arrangements with anyone to handle the business, they have discontinued it. In the future, when a person wishes to send a telegram, it will be necessary to telephone it to the office at Smithburg."
News item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Aug 3 1916, in its entirety:
WESTERN UNION OFFICE
"You can't keep a good town off the map, and West Union is one of that kind. So let us tell it at once and be done with it -- West Union has a new telegraph office, in Trainer's office, First National Bank Building, Corner of Main and Columbian Streets.
"The office will be in charge of L. T. Graham, that veteran of the B. & O., a more careful, painstaking man than whom the profession does not afford.
"For prompt service, for sure service, for accuracy and for secrecy of private matters, the Western Union has no equal.
"Patronize the new telegraph office!"
