Children by first wife, Edith: Daniel, Abigail, Phebe (or Phoebe), William, Ann, Reuben, Jesse, and Edith.
Children by second wife, Nancy Ann: Absalom, Hannah, Jonathan William, Josiah, Mary, and Amaziah.
In 1778, he was named the first sheriff of Rockingham Co. He was a Captain of the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War. He moved from Rockingham Co to Harrison Co ca 1795, then to Ohio in 1813.
