Notes for: Noah Cecil Ancell
Although identified as Noah Yeater in his birth record, in his 1907 marriage record, and in the 1910 Census, at some point he adopted the Ancell surname of his stepfather. He was listed as Noah Ancell in the censuses of 1900, 1930 & 1940, as Nortie C. Ancell in his first wife's 1931 death record, and as Noah C. Ancell in his 1933 marriage record and in his death record.
1910 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (McClellan District), enumerated on Apr 26 1910:
Noah Yeater, 23, farmer, married 3 yrs; wife Susana, 20, mother of 2 children (1 still living); son Orval, 8 months.
Noah was not found in the 1920 Census. His wife and children were enumerated as being co-located with her parents.
1920 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (McClellan District), enumerated on Jan 14 1920:
Head of household Joseph Johnson, 66, truck farmer; wife Mary M, 51; dau Rachel, 20; son Samma, 18; son Hhomer, 13.
Head of household Susanna Yeater, 30, married; son Orvil B, 10; son Keneth R, 9; son Clifford R, 6; dau Josephene, 4 yr 10 mo; son Burt, 3 mo (sic); son Burlin, 1 yr 8 mo.
(NOTE: Son Burt's stated age is inconsistent with all other records and appears to be a clerical error.)

Ancell, 45, coal miner, age 20 at time of first marriage; wife Susanna, 40, age 15 at first marriage; son Orville, 20, coal miner; son Kenneth R, 18, coal miner; son Rex C, 17, coal miner; dau Josephine, 15; son Bert, 14; son Burlin, 12; dau Madaline, 9; son Carl J, 6; son Roy R, 3 yr 10 mo.
1940 Census, Monongalia Co, WV (Grant District), enumerated on Apr 9 1940 at Hill Top - Tice Town Road:
Noah Ancell, 57, coal miner; wife Gertrude, 40; dau Susan, 5.
In this census, Noah's sons Carl (age 16) and Roy (14) were listed as "lodgers" in the household of Benjamin F. & Genevieve McMahon (ages 48 & 44) elsewhere in Monongalia County's Grant District. Son Bert was with the Army in Hawaii.
