Notes for: Eli Marshal Nutter

One of the most widely known and best liked men in Doddridge County, Eli Marshal Nutter was a life-long member of the Methodist Church at Oxford; was a lay delegate to the Uniting Conference in Kansas City in 1939; was a charter member of Oxford Grange No. 526, and of the West Union Senior Citizens. He was a former school teacher and postmaster at Oxford. He served as Deputy Sheriff of Doddridge County under his father, Eli Nutter, and later served as Sheriff. He was a former Councilman and Mayor of West Union, and was a clerk in McCormick Hardware at the time of his retirement at the age of 75.
