Notes for: Francis Delong Hickman
Francis Delong Hickman was appointed Clerk of the Circuit and County Courts of Doddridge County and held both offices for fourteen years. He was Clerk of the Board of Supervisors for five years and then became Commissioner of Accounts. He was one of the original settlers of the county and assisted in making the original survey of West Union. He was a merchant in the area for many years and Editor of the Herald, one of the first newspapers of the county. ["The History of Doddridge County, WV" p. 167] Headstone has his name spelled "Frances," but Francis is the spelling found elsewhere, including the name of his grandson, Francis Grover Hickman.
