Notes for: John Robert Shannon
For many years, John Robert Shannon was engaged in the mercantile business near Smithton. At the time that the B & O Railroad was being constructed through here, he had a store on the Russell farm near the west end of the Smithton tunnel. At one time, he was engaged in the mercantile business at Oxford and later in West Union, afterwards obtaining a lease in the lead mines in Galena, Ohio. He located in that city, where he remained for three years. Selling out his holdings there, he returned to Smithton, his birthplace, and engaged in farming the remainder of his life.
