"Messrs. G. S. Smith, Dudley Smith, Silas P. Smith, Claude Shannon and Chas. A. McConnell started to Fairmont on the 24th to attend the Normal school. You have our best wishes boys."
Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Jun 22 1916, in its entirety:
"The Hornor-Gaylord Company announces that they will given in addition to the prizes already offered, one-half barrel of Springola flour from Shannon's Store, and one-half barrel of Sweet Melody (flour) from Stephen Stutler's store, to the respective contestants in the automobile and foot-races here on the Fourth."
