Adjacent to the death record entry for Orval Reed is an entry for Edward William Reed, who died on the same day and location, with cause of death given as "Accidental Death - Compound fracture of skull - Hit by Train." According to the newspaper account of the accident, Orville [sic] Reed and Edward Reed, who were cousins, were drunk when struck by a freight train traveling through West Union during a rainstorm at about 3 a.m.
