Notes for: Ira E. "Art" Gherke

As a school bus driver for the Harrison County Board of Education, he received the Million Mile Award, which recognized a professional driver for logging one million miles without an accident. In 1982, he was inducted into the National School Bus Drivers Hall of Fame. He also worked as an auxiliary policeman for the Bridgeport Police Department, and he retired as a volunteer from the Bridgeport Fired Department.
