Notes for: Lydia Jane P. Woofter

Minnie Kendall Lowther's "History of Ritchie County," p. 602, states that Abner M. Maxwell married Lydia Jane Osbourne in 1862, and that they were the parents of, among others, Levi Maxwell and Porter Maxwell. But Doddridge County death records show the parents of Levi Maxwell, who died Oct 3 1929, as Abner Maxwell & Lydia Jane Woofter; and Harrison Co death records show the parents of Porter Maxwell, who died Dec 6 1934, as Abner Maxwell & Jane Woofter.

Abner M. Maxwell, 35, farmer; Lidia J, 27; Porter, 6; Mary F, 4; Levi, 3; Judah (middle initial A ?), 1.

1880 Census, Doddridge County WV (New Milton District), enumerated on Jun 29 1880:
Abner Maxwell, 45; farmer; wife Jane, 37; son Porter, 16; dau Frances, 14; son Levi, 12; dau Juline A (?), 11; dau Ella J, 9; dau Rebecca B, 7; son James, 3.
(Note: The next enumerated household was that of Abner's brother James.)

1900 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (New Milton District):
Abner M. Maxwell, 65, b. Oct 1834, married 38 yrs; wife Lyda J, 57, b. Aug 1842, mother of 8 children (7 still living); son James A, 22, b. Jun 1877; son William B, 18, b. Jul 1881.
