Notes for: Sophia O. Polan

"Davis - The Settlers of Salem WV," p. 119, reports that sons John and Charles were twins, born on Apr 13 1870. But Charles' death record states his birth date as Sep 13 1870, the 1900 Census gives his birth date as Sep 1871, age 28. The 1900 Census enumerated in a separate household, also shows John's birth date as Sep 1871, age 28. No birth record was found for either of them in Doddridge or Harrison counties.

1880 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (New Milton District), enumerated on Jun 7 1880:
Stephen Ford, 35, farmer; wife Sophiah, 36; son Samuel A, 12; son John A, 9; son Charles L, 9.

1900 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (New Milton District):
Stephen J. Ford, 54, b. Jul 1845, married 33 yrs; wife Sapphire, 55, mother of 5 children (3 still living); son John A, 28, b. Sep 1871, single.
