1880 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (New Milton District), enumerated on Jun 19 1880:
William Floyd, 22, occupation logging saw mill; wife Alvaretta, 23; son Oran L, 2; dau Rebecca E, 5 months; board Sidney Amos, 35, married, occupation working on saw mill; boarder Luther Amos, 28, single, occupation working on saw mill.
(Note: Many of the men in the nearby households listed their occupations as "working on saw mill." The owner/operator of the sawmill was presumably a neighbor, John McGowan, 65, whose occupation was listed as "running saw mill.")

1900 Census, Braxton Co, WV (Salt Lick District), enumerated on Jun 4 1900:
William Floyd, 42, b. Aug 1857, occupation lumberman, married 24 yrs; wife Alvaretta, 42, b. Nov 1857, mother of 6 children (3 still living); son Oron L, 22, b. Apr 1878, occupation lumber inspector, single; dau Rebecca E, 20, b. Dec 1879, single; dau Minnie O. Floyd, 8, b. Feb 1892.
A notation indicates that the family residence was a rented house, rather than a farm.

1910 Census, Braxton Co, WV (Holly District, village of Flatwoods), enumerated on May 5 1910:
Esmond G. Moore Jr, 21, b. Va, laborer on railroad bridges, married 7 months; wife Dessie, 18, no children; mother-in-law Alvaretta Floyd, 53, widowed; hired girl Maud Gillespie, 17, housekeeper, single.
