NEW YORK -- Ruth Maxwell Hill, of 37 West 10th Street, died Friday, September 24, 2010, at home.

Ms. Hill was born January 31, 1956, in New York, the only child of Arthur Cheney Clifton Hill and Katherine Johnson Hill of New York City.

Ms. Hill was the only grandchild of Louis Arthur Johnson and Ruth Maxwell Johnson of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

A lifelong resident of New York, Ms. Hill graduated from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and completed a master’s of fine arts degree at New York University. She pursued artistic interests in painting, silk screening, photography, video and music. She participated in group shows and taught art in underprivileged schools in the Bronx.

Ms. Hill is survived by her dearest friend, Timothy Druckrey of Brooklyn, a half brother, Peter Hill of Keene, N.H., and his children, as well as by numerous cousins.

Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, New York. Services for Ms. Hill will be held at 3 p.m. that same day. Interment in the family plot in Clarksburg, West Virginia, will be at the convenience of the family.
