Notes for: James William "Babe" Underwood

Captain James "Babe" Underwood, son of Mrs. Gertrude Underwood of West Union Star Route, was elected to Board of Governors, Fourth Armored Division Association, at the annual convention held recently in the Statler Hotel in New York City.
This association was formed after World War II and is made up of the memebers of the famous division which was in General Patton's Third Army in Europe.
Captain Underwood was a member of the 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division, and was the first in his battalion to recieve a battlefield commission. He wears the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster; Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster; American Theater Ribbon; ribon with 5 major campaign battle stars; occupation ribbon; Presidential Citation and French Tounage.
In February 1952, he returned from his second tour of duty in Europe, and is now assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment as regimental motor officer at Camp Pickett, Va.
