1880 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Southwest District), enumerated on Jun 1 1880:
John H. Gaston, 68, farmer; wife Jane, 64; son Hugh, 24, farm worker; brother-in-law William Pritchard, 61, physician. The 1880 Census form contains the following question: "Is the person [on the day of the Enumerator's visit] sick or temporarily disabled, so as to be unable to attend to ordinary business or duties? If so, what is the sickness or disability?" For John H. Gaston, that question was answered with the entry "Epileptic Fits."
