Census records indicate that Henry's mother Emma Napper never married. As the head of household in the 1900 Census, she is listed as Emma Napper, single, 44, b. Feb 1856 in Ohio (father b. in Virginia, mother b. in Ohio), occupation farmer, with her seven daughters and one son, Henry Napper. The next enumerated household was that of Emma's parents, Peter & Jane Napper Hawks is an unincorporated community in Vinton County, Ohio. A variant name was Hawk. A post office called Hawks was established in 1880, the name was changed to Hawk in 1895, and the post office closed in 1937.
