      NOTE: The birthplace of Rachel (Welch) Davis is known from other records to be Jefferson County, Indiana. [2]

      Identified as Ezekiel B. Davis, single, farmer, age 24y 1m, b. & res. in Doddridge Co, son of Alfred & Rebecca Davis; and Rachel Welch, single, age 20, b. Jefferson Co Virginia (sic), res. Doddridge Co, dau of James & Margaret Welch. Married Sep 24 1870 in Doddridge Co.
      (NOTE: Wife's stated birthplace is incorrect. According to Civil War widow's pension records filed by her mother after her father's 1865 death, Rachel was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, on Oct 30 1850. The 1870 Census also shows her birthplace as Indiana, although other census records incorrectly indicate Va/Wva.)
