Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Jan 20 1916, in its entirety:
"John Kimball, one of the largest men in the county, was here Tuesday. He lives on Little Flint, Grant District, and when in medium condition tips the scales at 275."
Obituary:
John Kimball, son of Joseph William and Catherine Kimball, was born March 9,, 1867, and departed this life October 1, ( this was blurry on my copy) 1937, at his home on Big Flint, aged 70 years, 6 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Leasure on August 14, 1890, and to this union, were born twelve children, seven girls and five boys-- nine are living. Mrs. Iva White, of Corinlh, WV; Mrs. Mary Leasure, of Sistersville; Mrs. Beulah Zeigler, of West Union; Mrs. Marie Bunting, of Shirley; Gertrude, at home; Charles and James, of West Union; and Virgil, of Shirley. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, David, of Jacksonburg, Sam, of West Union, and Mrs. John Gilbert, of Morgansville. Funeral services were conducted in the Shirley, U. B. Church, by Rev. Roush, of Centerville, and burial was made in the Church Cemetery. Osborne and Hall, funeral directors in charge.
