Jas. E. Strather [sic], 45, b. Apr 1855, salesman, married 7 months; wife Silvia C, 20, b. Oct 1879, married 7 months, no children; stepdau [sic] Blanch M, 16, b. Jan 1884; stepson [sic] Chas. R, 8, b. Aug 1891. All born in West Virginia.
NOTE: Rather than stepchildren, Blanche and Charles were actually James Strother's children from his first marriage, to Hannah R. Gaston. The census-taker was probably dealing with Sylvia, who correctly identified them as her stepchildren.
1910 Census, Doddridge County, WV (Greenbrier District), enumerated on April 18, 1910:

1920 Census, Doddridge County, WV (Greenbrier District), enumeration date not given. Enumeration location specified as Little Greenbrier:
Sylvia C. Strother, 40, widowed, occupation home work (farm, home); son Arden B. [sic], 15; son Glen C, 13.
1930 Census, Doddridge County, WV (Greenbrier District), enumerated on April 23, 1930:
Sylvia C. Davis, 50, farmer, married 19 yrs; dau Cleta Davis, 12.
1940 Census, Doddridge County, WV (Greenbrier District), enumerated on April 2, 1940:
Sylvia C. Davis, 60, widowed, farmer, education 7 yrs grade school; foster son Edward O. Perine, 20, married, restaurant worker, 6 yrs grade school; foster daughter Opal Fay Perine, 22, married, 3 yrs high school; grandson Eugene Strother, 12, 4 yrs grade school. All born in West Virginia except Eugene, born in Michigan, and his residence in 1935 was Detroit.
