Apr 1884; dau Cilda L, 13, b. Jun 1886; granddau [sic] Silas E. Simpson, 5, b. Dec 1894; granddau [sic] Jennette L. Simpson, 3, b. Sep 1896. All born in West Virginia.
      NOTE: The two children identified as granddaughters should have been listed as nephew and niece. They were children of Mary Langfitt Smith's sister Lenora V. "Jennie" Langfitt Simpson, who had died in August 1899. The children's father, James L. Simpson, was found in this census in a boarding house in Tyler County.

      NOTE: Husband's name in the handwritten ledger-style marriage record could be misconstrued as David rather than Daniel. His age is understated by two years as compared to ages entered in the 1850 and 1860 censuses and on his headstone.
