"Nimrod Bennington was the son of John G. Bennington, born ca. 1794, and Elizabeth Morris, born ca. 1800, daughter of John Morris. John G. Bennington was the son of Job Bennington, Revolutionary War soldier.

"Nimrod never saw Thomas, his youngest child. When the Civil War broke out, Nimrod, being a Southern sympathizer, went back to Virginia to fight. After his return to near Harrisville, local sentiment was such that he was forced to return to Virginia, leaving his family behind."
