    • In the 1850 Census of Doddridge County, the enumeration of the household of Henry Wanstreet (59, b. Germany, farmer, value of real estate $300) included six other Wanstreet family members plus:
      J. H. Diss Debar, 30, b. France, land agent, value of real estate $8,500.
      Also in the 1850 Census, Amelia Cain was listed as Milly Cain, 26, b. Va, cannot read/write, in the hotel/household of Francis M. F. Smith in the town of West Union.

      1860 Census, Doddridge Co, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated on Jul 6 1860:
      J. H. Diss Debarr, 40, b. France, farmer, value of real estate $18,960, value of personal estate $2,158; Amelia, 34, b. Va; George, 7; Francis (female), 5; Mary, 3.

      Diss Debar's home in Doddridge County was in the community of St. Clara, founded by him in 1846 and named for his first wife.

      1880 Census, City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, enumerated in June 1880 at 1621 Hutchinson Street:
      Jos. H. Dissdebar, 60, b. France, real estate agent; wife Amelia, 54, b. Va; son George, 27, b. Va, printer, single; dau Florence, 19, b. Va, single; dau Clara, 13, b. Va; granddau Mary J. Charlton, 4 months, b. Feb 1880 in Pennsylvania; son-in-law Wm. Charlton, 51, b. Ireland, actor, widowed; boarder Phineas Michiner, 71, b. Pa, watchman, married.
      NOTE: It is unlikely that Joseph H. Diss Debar was actually present in Philadelphia at the time of this enumeration. According to a newspaper article in the "Daily Picayune" (New Orleans, LA) of March 24 1880, he was in New Orleans with a woman, Ann O'Delia, with whom he had a prolonged affair and eventually went to prison with in New York for fraud.

      1900 Census, City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, enumerated on Jun 5 1900 at 2544 Franklin Street:
      Joseph Debar, 80, b. Mar 1820 in France, year of immigration 1842, naturalized citizen, occupation artist, married 41 yrs; wife Amelia, 74, b. Jun 1825 in Virginia, married 41 yrs, mother of 1 (sic) child (still living); son Florent, 39, b. Mar 1861, single, clerk.
