(NOTE: There are several inconsistencies in this marriage record. Although husband's age appears to be correct based on census records, his stated birth date is clearly incorrect. His headstone shows it as Mar 19 1901, corresponding to census records. Wife's stated information, however, is incorrect on several counts. Her stated age does not correspond to her stated birth date, which in turn differs from both her headstone date (Aug 7 1904) and birth record (Aug 7 1903). Furthermore, the couple identified as her parents were, in fact, not her parents and could not have been. Her birth record identifies her parents as Winfield Scott Chapman and Jennie May Hall, and she appears with them in the 1910 Census. Eber Wilson died in 1897, and his wife Frances "Fanny" Peppers Wilson was born in 1852 and would have been a widow in her early 50's when Mary Fay Chapman Robey was born. Eber and Fanny Wilson were actually the maternal grandparents of the husband in this marriage, Howard Ayers. This marriage record is the only instance we have found that Mary was apparently residing in Wood County, and it is the only instance we have found that either Mary or Howard was associated with Roane County, where the ceremony took place. We can only speculate as to the reason for the misinformation.)
