- Military records show that William Snider, age 22, resident of Doddridge County, enlisted in Co G, 8th Va Cav, C.S.A., in Calhoun County on Sep 25 1862. He appears to have captured twice, the first time being in Doddridge County when he was still a Confederate recruit. Disposition: Sent to Camp Chase POW camp in Ohio. The second time that he was captured, he was identified as William Snider, Corpl, Co G, 8th Virginia Cavalry. Disposition: "Took amnesty oath and sent north," released from Cumberland Md in March 1865.
