    • Death date in death record is April 22 1929. But the following death notice for him (misidentified as M. D. Duty) appeared in the January 31, 1929 issue of the West Union Herald:

      "After an illness of a week of influenza, M. D. Duty, 83, is dead.
      "He served in the Union army during the Civil War. Surviving him are a daughter and five sons.
      "Funeral services were held at the Arnolds Creek church in charge of the Rev. Mr. Harry D. Wheaton, of the West Union Christian church."

      His headstone has only his birth date. Findagrave reports his death date as January 22, 1929, consistent with the death notice. Basis for the incorrect death record remains unexplained.
