    Notes
    • 1860 Census, Harrison Co, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumeration date not given:
Levi C. Nutter, 32, farm laborer, value of real estate (blank), value of personal estate$390; Richard Hockenhull, 32, physician, value of real estate (blank), value of personal estate $80; Rebecca Nutter, 33; Mary F. Adams, 5. All born in Virginia except Richard Hockenhull, born in England.

1870 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Simpson Twp), enumerated on Nov 2 1870:
Levi Nutter, 41, farmer; Rebecca Nutter, 44; Frances Adams (female), 15; Florence Adams, 9.
NOTE: Relationship of the Adams girls to the Nutter family is not indicated. Levi Nutter and Rebecca Greathouse were married in Harrison County in Dec 1851. Florence was identified in her marriage record as Florence Adams, daughter of (blank) and Senia Adams. But in her husband's and children's death records she was identified as Florence Hickman. There is no death record for her. Frances Adams married George Hornick in Harrison County in Jan 1872, with her parents identified as Hickman & Seny (?) Adams. That would make Florence and Mary Frances Adams sisters, as implied int the 1870 Census.

In 1880, Levi and Rebecca, though still married, were enumerated separately. Levi was listed in Simpson District as a boarder in the household of Owen Marks (age 47, blacksmith) and his family. Rebecca was listed in Elk District as a boarder in the household of her widowed sister Elizabeth:
1880 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Elk District), enumerated on Jun 11 1880:
Elizabeth Whitman, 57, widowed; boarder Rebecca Nutter, 52, married, medical condition blind.

      Rebecca died sometime before 1900.

1900 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Simpson District), enumerated on Jun 15 1900:
Levi C. Nutter, 71, b. May 1829, widowed, farmer; boarder Elizabeth Reed, 55, b. Mar 1845, widowed, mother of 10 children (9 still living); boarder Edgar D. Reed, 21, b. Jan 1879, single, farm laborer; boarder David W. Reed, 19, b. May 1881, single, farm laborer; boarder Esty M. Reed, 15, b. Jul 1884. All born in West Virginia except Elizabeth, born in Virginia.
NOTE: Sarah Elizabeth Reed, a daughter of David G. Russell and Catherine Fox, was the widow of Alpheus Reed. When Levi died the following year, she was the only person named in his will, which was very brief:

I, Levi C. Nutter of the County of Harrison and State of West Virginia, being of sound mind, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament.
I give, devise and bequeath to Mrs. Elizabeth Reed all of my personal property, consisting of Horses, Cows, Household and Kitchen furniture, etc.
Witness my Signature this 21st day of April 1899
