NOTE: Mollie (Mary) Kirk is the daughter of James Kirk (whereabouts in this census not determined) and Ellen Whalen, who died at Mollie's birth.
1900 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Grant District), enumerated on Jun 27 1900:
Ellen Kurk [sic], 82, b. May 1818 in Ireland, immigrated in 1855, farmer, widowed, mother of 5 children (2 still living); son James, 50, b. Jan 1850 in Ireland, immigrated 1855, naturalized, farmer, widowed; dau Ellen, 40, b. Mar 1860 in WVa, single.
1910 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Grant District), enumerated on Apr 21 1910:
James Kirk, 66, b. Ireland, blacksmith (own shop), widowed; sister Ellen Kirk, 52, b. Ireland, single.
NOTE (1): The next enumerated household consisted of: John Hession, 54, single, farmer; sister Catherine Hession, 44, single; Mike Hession, 50, single, mason/bricklayer. These were probably related to James and Ellen's mother, Ellen Hession Kirk.
NOTE (2): In May 1912, Ellen Kirk married John Hanafee (Hanafy) in Harrison County and they moved to New Albany, Indiana, where he had been living. Three months later, James Kirk died of tuberculosis in New Albany, with the informant on his death certificate identified as Mrs. John Hanafee, New Albany. When Ellen died of the same disease in 1933 in Detroit, her sister Mary (Kirk) Shaughnessy was the informant on her death certificate.
