| Notes |
- William and Emma appear to have separated for a number of years. In 1900 and 1910 she was enumerated without him in Pennsboro as head of household with their children, marital status widowed. In 1910 he was enumerated in Wood County as a boarder in an unrelated household, marital status single, no occupation. But in 1920 and 1930, they were enumerated together. His death record (with his name incorrectly entered as Wilbur) indicates his marital status as married, wife name Emma Martin Johnson. Nonetheless, when she died six years later, she was buried in Parkersburg rather than with him in Clarksburg.
