- Stanislaus County Weekly News, Modesto, California, Friday, 5 April 1907, page 4 -
"John Bond, a former resident of Modesto, died in Kennett, Shasta County, last Friday.
Mr. Bond resided here some twelve years ago. He was a jeweler by trade, and was in business here two years. Leaving Modesto, he removed to La Grange, where he lived until six months ago, removing at that time to Shasta County."
John Bond married Janet Steel, a native of Scotland, in October 1885. They had one daughter, Allean, in March 1886.
Kennett was an important copper mining town in northern California until it was deliberately flooded by Shasta Lake while Shasta Dam was being constructed. Kennett is still submerged under approximately 400 ft. of water (depending on the lake level). It was the largest, most important mining town in the area outside of Redding and Shasta.
