Although her father was identified in her 1944 marriage record as Cyrus Knight, he was actually her grandfather and had died long before her birth. For several years, including in her 1939 and 1944 marriage records, she went by the name Emily Blanche Knight. But in the 1940 Census she was listed as Augusta Leeson, and in the 1950 Census as Augusta M. Hinkle. For her 1945 marriage and in the years thereafter, she retained her birth name Augusta.
