    Notes 
    • Although his name has been reported as Laffeyette U. Jones and other variations, "Lafayette M. Jones" is the form that has been most consistently found. Nonetheless,
      his death record identifies him as Marion L. Jones, and his name appears on his headstone as "M. Lafeyette Jones." And while his age as stated in the birth records of his children would put his birth at about 1852, his stated age was 29 at the time of his marriage on Nov 11 1879, and his headstone specifies Nov 25 1849. In the 1850 Census of Ritchie County, enumerated on Sep 9 1850, he was listed as Lafayette M. Jones, age 5 months.
