    • Thomas S. Morris' birthplace is given in the 1850 and 1870 Censuses as (West) Virginia, and in his death record as Harrison County. But the 1860 Census shows it as New Jersey, which is believed to be correct, since his family is known to have moved to Harrison County from New Jersey in 1818. His daughter Susan's death record states that her father was born in Trenton, New Jersey,

      Identified as Thos. S. Morris, white male, married, occupation carpenter, age 72, born in Harrison County, son of S. & Rebecca Morris; died September 1879 in Lewis County, cause of death diarrhea. Informant: Rachael Morris, daughter. (Note: Although indicated here as Harrison County, his actual birthplace is believed to be New Jersey, since his family is known to have moved to Harrison County from New Jersey in 1818. His two known wives, Prudence White and Susan M. Bouse, died in 1850 and 1850 respectively. Despite his marital status given here as married, a third wife has not been documented.

      The only part of the death date still readable on the headstone in the enhanced photograph posted at Findagrave.com is the month September. Age at death is clearly 72y 5m 5d. Based on his birth date, known from the Family Bible to be Apr 12 1807, his death date thus would be Sep 17 1879. His death record states only the month September.
