- After college, Jim taught one year at a one room schoolhouse in Hazelgreen, West Virginia before being drafted into the Army. After his military service, he taught eleven years in Columbus, Ohio. In 1964, he bought the farm of his dreams in Oxford, WV and in the spring of 1971, he moved his family back to West Virginia. He then taught 17 years for the Doddridge County Board of Education at Summers Elementary and Greenwood Elementary, and he eventually became principal of Greenwood Elementary School. During this time, he earned his masters degree in Administration from Frostburg University in Maryland.
