In 1940, she was listed as Annie Loper, 50, married, one of many inmates at the Weston State Hospital of the Insane in Lewis County.
We have found no record of Mary Ann "Annie" Nutter after the 1940 Census.

Lipscomb, 33, widowed, along with several of her children. So it seems likely that this couple were soon divorced or the marriage annulled.
