"After the war [Civil War] was over, they opened up a village 3 miles away. They had a big store and post office. They sent 2 wagons every week to St. Mary's for supplies and mail until the railroad was built. An old Doctor by the name of White came to the village. He was one of the kind if one of your kids got sick, give them a dose of castor oil with turpentine. If they was not better the next day, call Dr. White. He would look them over and give them another dose."
