    • Military records show that Thomas Emmett Nutter, age 20, enlisted in Co E, 6th W.Va. Infantry, on 18 Aug 1861 at Harrisville, Ritchie County. He was described as 5"10', yellow eyes, fair hair, fair complexion, farmer, born in Harrison County. He mustered in as a Private on 31 Aug 1861 at Webb's Mill, Ritchie County. In Mar/Apr 1862, he was on detached guard duty at Burnt Bridge, near Toll Gate. In May 1862, he was sick at the hospital in West Union. On 23 July 1862, he transferred to Capt. Maulsby's Battery at Central Station. (NOTE: This Company was detached as Battery F, 1st Regiment W.Va. Light Artillery per Special Order 148 War Department, A.G.O., officially dated 31 Mar 1863. It was commonly referred to as Capt. Maulsby’s Battery.) Company Muster Rolls show that in Mar/Apr 1863, he was sick at Martinsburg, Va., and in Oct/Nov 1863 he was on teamster duty. He mustered out a Private, Battery F, 1st Regiment W.Va. Light Artillery, on 10 Sept 1864 in Wheeling. The Civil War Pension Index shows that Thomas Emmett Nutter died on 21 Oct 1909.
