A woman in Salem has found a way to take the city's past and put it toward preservation for the future.
Patricia Carder and her sister-in-law started organizing old newspaper articles by Dorothy Belle Davis before she died.
The articles appeared once a week for a year in 1976 and covered Salem's history from 1776 to 1976.
Carder compiled the articles and published them in a book called "Salem West Virginia 1776 - 1976."
Now she's giving her profits from the sale of the books to the Salem Chamber of Commerce.
"It's 200 years of past history - its the people," said Carder. "It's the people that started the churches, that started the schools, and established the new government and all the businesses, the hand blown glass companies, the factories, everything that happened in Salem throughout those years."
