    • Age 21 given at time of Oct 1871 marriage would put birth in about 1850, four years before her parents' marriage. Age 21 is also given in 1870 Census, enumerated in July 1870, putting birth in about 1849. Age 34 given at time of 1880 Census would put birth in about 1846, while age 40 given at time of remarriage in May 1898 would put birth in about 1848. Given the disparity in age with her husband (b. ca 1826), it is possible that her given age was deliberately misstated in the 1880 Census. The 1900 Census shows her birth date as Feb 1850, consistent with most other evidence, thus raising the question of her true paternity. Her birthplace is given as Upshur County in her first marriage record, but as Harrison County in her second marriage record.
