      NOTE 1: Relationships and marital status were not indicated in the 1870 Census. But it is known from other records that Joseph and Elizabeth were children of Eleazer and Elizabeth. William was another of their sons, widowed at the time of this enumeration, along with his three children Lydia, Eleazer and John.
      NOTE 2: Edward Sterling was a foster child, the orphaned son of Jeremiah R. & Malinda Sterling of Preston County, who were enumerated with their four children in the 1860 of Doddridge County. Edward's three older siblings were enumerated in this census in three other households, M Virginia with the Philip Jeffreys family in Taylor County, Matilda with the John Straub family in Doddridge, and John D with the Asa Harris family in Doddridge.
