There are two entries for this marriage: (1) John Ireland, 24, b. Harrison Co, res. Doddridge Co, son of Thomas; and Mahala Hickman, 20, b. Harrison Co, res. Doddridge Co, dau of Richard; married Sep 10 1854. And (2) John C. Ireland, 24, res. Doddridge Co, son of Thomas; and Mahala Hickman, 19, res. Doddridge Co, dau of Richard; married Sep 25 1854. It is possible that the first entry pertained to the marriage bond, while the second was for the marriage itself. Minnie Kendall Lowther's "Ritchie County in History and Romance," p. 232, incorrectly states marriage date as 1853.
