- Attended West Point Military Academy, graduating 16th in his class in 1881. Took part in military battles against the Apache Indians, 1885-86, and against the Sioux Indians, 1890-91. He served in Cuba, 1899-1902, and in the Philippines, 1908-1910. In 1906 he was superintendent of permanent camps in connection with relief work in San Francisco. He was with the punitive expedition in Mexico in 1916-17. From Aug 1917 to Feb 1919, he served with the rank of Brigadier General in the World War. During this period he commanded the Depot Brigade at Camp Travis, San Antonio, TX, and later with the 90th Div, and with the 37th Div at Montgomery, AL, and at Petersburg, VA. Later he was Camp Commander and then Eecutive Officer at Camp Meade, MD, with the 154th Depot Brigade. He was a graduate of the Army War College at Washington, DC, where he resided following retirement in 1920. [2]
