However, the 1850 Census, enumerated on Jul 17 1850, shows her age as 7 months, placing her birth in November or December 1849. Surname on death record is given as Pinnell, rather than Pernell.

      Identified as Benj. Pinell, single, farmer, 22, b. & res. in Doddrige Co, son of Joseph & Anna; and Sophronia Fox, 21, single, b. Doddridge Co, res. Pleasants Co, dau of Seber & Charlotte. Married Apr 30 1867 in Pleasants County.
      NOTE: Wife's stated residence in Pleasants County is questionable, as neither she nor her family were found there before or after this marriage. Reason for wife being identified as Saphronia Fox, rather than Powell, is not known. Saphrona appeared with the family of Benjamin & Mary Ann Powell in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, while the family of Seber & Charlotte Fox had no daughter in those censuses who could be her. Safrona's death record identifies her parents as Benjamin Powell & Mary Ann Lawson. In the absence of evidence of another scenario, we can only speculate that the marriage was an elopement, and in addition to overstating her age by four years, Safrona provided a fictitious name and parents to disguise her identity.
