- After retirement, she and her sister, Carol Ocheltree, continued to write the personal column in The Pennsboro News for many years.
Singing was her lifelong beloved hobby, beginning with her sister Carol as the Morrison Sisters. They later became a trio with Margaret Ann Hess (Connon) as the Pennsboro Harmonettes, where they sang on the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree for a year as the Jamboree Sweethearts. The trio then added a fourth member, Margery (Smith) Talkington, and they were the Pennsboro Ladies Quartet for 40 years.
Joanne was also deeply involved in helping schools, churches, and the local community where she held multiple offices throughout the years. She was a lifelong member of the EUB/United Methodist Church in Pennsboro where she was a young-adult Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.
